Rubens Barrichello, 37, confirmed he was quitting Jenson Button’s Brawn GP team to become lead driver at Williams, who have also signed German Nico Hulkenberg, 22.
Ross Brawn, team principal at Brawn, said: “We are very pleased for Rubens that he will be driving in Formula One again next year.
“Rubens was with our team for four years and we regard him as a talented driver whose contribution to the team over that period was significant.”

Although deciding not to renew Barrichello’s contract, team boss Brawn is delighted Barrichello is remaining in the sport.
“This year was a very special season for Brawn GP and I’m extremely proud of the spirit in which our drivers fought for the championship,” he added.
“Rubens contributed hugely to our success in the constructors’ championship with two great victories in Valencia and Monza, along with numerous podiums, and he was a pleasure to work with.”
Barrichello is the most experienced driver in Formula One history, having made 284 starts, and in joining Williams will now pass the 300-race milestone next year.
Team principal Frank Williams said: “Rubens needs no introduction. He is not only the most experienced driver in Formula One, but a passionate and talented driver who fought hard for the championship this year.” The Press Association
