In IndyCar, his teammates had their own cars. In the ALMS, he and teammate David Brabham will be sharing the same ride, swapping in and out. Brabham will start 11th today.
His Patron Highcroft Acura Le Mans Prototype-2 is as different from a street car as the Wright Flyer is from a F-117 Stealth Fighter.
“It does everything it’s supposed to do, ” Sharp said. “It’s got Formula One-level technology, with a [semi-automatic] paddle-shift [transmission] system. It handles unbelievably in the high corners. I can’t believe it sticks this well. “
Perhaps the break from IndyCar racing could have been better. Sharp and Patron were facing a lawsuit from his former team in the IRL, Rahal Letterman Racing, in a Miami court over breach of contract before reaching a settlement Friday.
