Seb Well, if you haven’t heard by now, it appears another North American open-wheel racing star has been kicked to the curb by his Formula One overlords.
Scuderia Toro Roso (that’s Red Bull in Italian for those of you who can’t understand European marketing strategies) officially parted ways with Sebastien Bourdais today, bringing an end to a year-and-a-half relationship that really only succeeded in making Cristiano da Matta and Scott Speed not feel so bad. Bourdais has only scored six points from the 27 grands prix for Toro Roso.
But he said: “I consider that Toro Rosso has breached contractual duties. Nothing in my behaviour would legitimise a decision to terminate.”
“I have instructed my lawyers to review the situation including the possibility of issuing legal proceedings.” BBC Sport
Team boss Franz Tost confirmed earlier on Thursday that the team had released Bourdais as the partnership had “not met our expectations.” The 30-year-old certainly disappointed during his 18 months with the Italian-based team, winning a mere six points from 27 grands prix.
“I am very disappointed and shocked by the decision taken by Toro Rosso of not allowing me to drive for the team until the end of the current season,” remarked Bourdais.
Last year the Frenchman found himself overshadowed by Sebastian Vettel, and despite being given a second chance this season, has struggled against 20-year-old Swiss rookie Sebastien Buemi. The Press Association
