Sir Jackie Stewart Insists he Can Still Teach Tricks Behind The Wheel


Motor racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart insists he could still teach young bucks such as Jensen Button a trick or two behind the wheel.

Button, 29, has just won his first Formula One world championship - just a year after fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton, 24, took the title.

But 70-year-old Sir Jackie, who won the crown three times during his glory days, reckons he could improve both youngsters’ driving technique.

Sir Jackie was know as the Flying Scot at his peak and he showed he’d lost none of his skills as he dusted off his race suit to roll back the years at the Knockhill Circuit in Fife yesterday.

There was no sign his reflexes had disappeared as he roared round the 1.3-mile circuit at more than 100mph. And Sir Jackie said: “Driving is something that, once you have got it, remains with you the rest of your life.”

“It’s a bit like riding a bike in that you never forget it.”

“Today’s race drivers are superhuman but I’d be able to help someone like Jensen Button or Lewis Hamilton knowledge wise but not on driving ability.”
