Despite making all the right moves during the early stages of Targa Tasmania, Toowoomba’s Skelta G-Force sports car has been ruled out of contention for event honours, due to an unfortunate breakage suffered earlier this afternoon.
After clearing the opening four stages within the allocated base times, Vandersee went straight on the charge and directed the Skelta to second place overall and just two seconds off the lead.
But then everything turned pear-shaped just over 10 kilometres into the 16 kilometre Devonport stage.
“A lower suspension arm bolt came loose and caused the attachment bracket to break, ” said a disappointed Vandersee.
“It’s just one of those things. Up until then the car was going brilliantly. The Kumho tyres we had chosen were perfect for the road in varying wet and dry conditions.
“During the Paradise stage it was a great ride although other competitors appeared to struggle.
“We were just going like a rocket and I must admit I had never driven the Skelta so fast before.
“I really have to acknowledge the generosity of the locals who were brilliant in helping us out with the roadside repairs we needed to make.
