British Porsche Carrera Cup driver, Sam Hancock, finished 8th and 6th respectively in the series opening two rounds at Brands Hatch over the weekend, securing vital championship points from an otherwise challenging weekend.
The 27-year old Londoner set the 2nd fastest time in free practice on Friday, so was disappointed to find his Technojobs-sponsored Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car only 5th on the grid for Race 1 after Saturday morning s qualifying session.
“We made a small mistake on the set-up this morning, ” said Hancock, “and with just nine-one hundredths of a second separating me in 5th place and my team mate in 2nd, you can see how vital it is to have everything perfect. ”
Race 1 started badly, with Hancock struggling to get his Motorbase Performance team s car off the line. No sooner though had he overtaken Rob Collard for 7th place on his way back up through the field, was his ascent interrupted as the ex-British Touring Car driver sent Hancock into a spin with a clout from behind as they entered the following corner. Fortunately, the gap to the cars behind was such that Hancock lost only one position and was able to go on to complete the race in 8th place.
