More than just the on-track excitement of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, KONI Challenge, and SCCA Mazda MX-5 Cup surround the U. S. Sports Car Invitational delivered by Luggage Express May 18-20 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Activities for all ages abound during the opening weekend of the world famous facility’s 50th Anniversary season.
After an opening day of practice on Friday, May 18, fans are invited to mix and mingle with some of the stars of the Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve during a Fan Party at the Mucky Duck in downtown Monterey from 5:00 – 8:00 p. m. The Mucky Duck is one of the Monterey Peninsula’s hottest night spots, and will kick off your Friday evening in style.
The Sunset Bicycle Ride is a chance to pedal around a world-famous race track while helping two worthy causes. The first charity is Camp Boggy Creek, a year-round camp for children ages 7-16 who have chronic or life threatening illnesses. The camp, one of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camps, allows children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays to enjoy traditional camp activities as just a “kid. ” Surrounded by other campers “just like them” they escape the loneliness and isolation they may feel the rest of the year. No child or family pays to attend the family weekends or weeklong summer sessions. Camp Boggy Creek is solely supported by contributions and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations and is a proud charity of Grand American Road Racing.
