Alexander Mosley, 39, was reportedly found slumped on the floor of his mews flat on Tuesday, an hour after returning there with a male pal.

Police confirmed he had suffered a drugs overdose – just months after a newspaper printed photos of Max Mosley taking part in an S&M orgy.

The F1 supremo said later the shame of the revelations had “humiliated” his family.

“Can you imagine seeing pictures like that of your father? It’s just appalling,” he said.

He added: “I don’t think there is anything worse for a son than to see in a newspaper, particularly one like the News Of The World, pictures of the kind they printed.

Alex’s neighbours in Notting Hill, west London, said it was “inconceivable” the computer worker would have taken his own life.

“It is very sad what’s happened. I didn’t know him well.” Daily Star

“A post-mortem will take place in due course,” it said, while a spokesman added that the death was not being treated as suspicious, and declined to comment officially on the reports of an overdose.

The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), of which Mosley is the president, said in a statement on its website: “The FIA extends sincere condolences to the Mosley family on the sad news of the death of Alexander Mosley.”

“Our thoughts are with Alexander’s family and friends, and we would request that the media respect the Mosley family’s privacy at this difficult time.”

Former formula one team boss and Mosley family friend Eddie Jordan said he was devastated by the “tragic” news.

“Max and particularly Alexander were very close,” he told, adding that he remembered Mosley’s son being “on the periphery” of formula one, notably through his computer skills.”

“I can only recall this nice young, very energetic, very, very, very clever body being involved and just being there because his father was there ... he was a hugely clever and talented computer expert,” he added. Sydney Morning Herald

Alexander Mosley, 39, a restaurateur and economist, was found by a relative at his £1.5million home.

The neighbour, who declined to be named, said: “Alexander was a very troubled guy. He was too rich, too young and he had problems, and they haunted him to the end.

“He has obviously bought something and it was too strong and it killed him. I just hope they catch whoever sold it.”

Oxford-educated Mr Mosley was discovered on Tuesday afternoon at his mews house in west London’s fashionable Notting Hill.
