A dramatic three-way dogfight has broken out over Scuderia Toro Rosso’s 2009 Formula 1 seats.
The team tested 2008 driver Sebastien Bourdais, F1 refugee Takuma Sato and Swiss GP2 front-runner Sebastien Buemi at Barcelona this week.
Japanese Sato, who lost out when Super Aguri went under earlier this year, was quickest of all on Day 1 of the three-day test, attended by most F1 teams.
But on Day 3 Bourdais was second only to the star of the week, Red Bull’s new recruit Sebastian Vettel, with Buemi in third just a couple of tenths behind in the times.
Sato said it would be a “dream” to drive for STR, who won the Italian Grand Prix with Vettel in September.
He said: “I did everything I could in the cockpit and with the engineers. But unfortunately this is something I cannot decide. So I have to wait and see what the team wants.”
