Tafel Racing drivers Wolf Henzler and Dominik Farnbacher qualified fourth and fifth respectively for the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) season opener Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring to be run on Saturday.
The team from Georgia has been a fixture in the top five of the timing sheet all week. The Central Florida 3.7-mile, 17-turn historic converted airport circuit is the first race in the series for the team’s new Porsche 997 RSR GT2 cars. The Tafel development program with the new car is already showing benefits, with both cars running near flawless practice sessions maximizing valuable early season track time for the drivers.
Wolf Henzler was nominated to qualify the No. 71 Tafel Racing Porsche today. The German turned a lap of 2:03.338 with an average speed of 108 mph, good enough for a second row starting position.
“We have come a long way since we unloaded and ran on Monday, †Henzler said. “The car had a slight push through the high-speed corners, but I am happy with my qualifying effort. The team has improved the car every day and we really didn’t try to put a qualifying setup on the car. Right now we have a good race car that I can drive nearly every where on the track and that is what is needed for the race. â€
