A quartet of American WEST D Sports racers will be the focus of attention in the Thundersports category at Round 4 of the Australian Motor Racing Series to be held at the Queensland Raceway on June 16-17.
WEST Cars Australia works driver and Fujitsu V8 Supercar debutant Tom Drewer is to be joined at the event by GT Championship driver Graeme Cook, Carrera Cup driver Ash Samardi, and former Formula Holden driver Mark Buik, all in identical WEST cars.
‘This is the first time that we have had four WEST cars competing in the AMRS Series and the racing should be fantastic’, WEST Race Cars Director Terry Little said today.
Drewer has dominated in the Thundersports category in his WEST chassis since first competing in the car last year and currently holds lap records at Adelaide International Raceway, Calder, Winton, and Wakefield Park.
He also recently set a lap record at Adelaide’s Mallala circuit.
‘The four cars competing at Queensland Raceway will be joined by another two WEST cars currently being assembled in Adelaide, with yet more cars coming from the WEST factory in Portland in the USA later in the year’, Terry Little added.
The WEST WR1000 is the latest example of the marque and is a 260+ kph state of the art sports racing car that weighs in at a mere 375 kilos with 174 horsepower at the rear wheels delivered via a Kawasaki 1000cc engine.
WEST are official constructors to the IMSA Lites Series and produce the most successful D Class Sports Prototype in the USA.
