Tony Sullens may have collected outright honours at the 2007 Targa Tasmania event but there’s no denying Ray Vandersee’s Skelta G-Force was the most celebrated. Following today’s final six stages the overall competition tally for the Toowoomba driver in his self designed sports car totaled 23 outright victories.
The Queenslander only three times finished outside the top three of all stages contested and disregarding the rear suspension woes of day one, the Skelta G-Force was the most dominant of vehicles in the International tarmac event. Today it was a similar top-notch display as Vandersee rocketed the Skelta to three outright victories, a second and third placing.
Like yesterday’s historic stage record on Cethana, Vandersee claimed equal top spot in the highly regarded 47 kilometre acid test of Mt Arrowsmith as only he and Sullens were able to complete the journey within the allocated base time. “We passed up to six cars on Mt Arrowsmith and there were just the two of us who cleaned the stage and that too was a big improvement on last year, ” said Vanderseee.
“It was a little disappointing that Strahan was disregarded as I was looking forward to that stage also. “Across the board I found the car more than competitive in the wet stages throughout the entire day. “Given the pace we had already showed in the dry I was hoping to perform well in the wet and again it proved a very pleasing day. ”
