Organisers of the European Grand Prix are confident Fernando Alonso will be racing in Valencia in a fortnight’s time.
Race promoters in Valencia were outraged after Alonso’s Renault team were handed a one-race suspension, fearing the loss of a considerable amount of revenue without the Spaniard on track.
However, company operations director Carlos Moreno-Figueroa said: “I call on all those who are doubting whether or not to buy a ticket depending on the presence of Alonso to do so. We are being told from every side that he will be in Valencia.” The Press Association
The team is appealing the penalty and an International Court of Appeal hearing has been scheduled for August 17, with a verdict due the following day – just three days before practice gets underway on the Valencia street circuit.
The Spanish motorsport federation has asked the FIA’s Court of Appeal to reconsider what it called the “unusual and disproportionate” penalty handed to Renault after the Hungarian Grand Prix. Auto Racing Daily
