Ferrari will decide within the next three days whether Luca Badoer will drive for the team at the Italian Grand Prix.
Badoer’s two performances since stepping in as replacement for the recuperating Felipe Massa have been so miserable he has earned the cruel nickname ‘Look How Bad You Are’.
At the European Grand Prix in Valencia and for Sunday’s race in Belgium, Badoer qualified at the back of the grid and was last of those that finished.
The team’s tester of 12 years has been an embarrassment, and it is hard to imagine Ferrari keeping faith with the 38-year-old for the most important race of their year. The Press Association
Team principal Stefano Domenicali made the announcement Sunday after the Belgian Grand Prix.
“With regard with what we are going to do for the next races we will tell you in the next three days,” Domenicali said. “We are going to take all into consideration, it depends how the medical checkup that Felipe will do tomorrow (goes) and then we will put on the table all the different things. And then we will make a decision.”
Domenicali hinted that Badoer’s time as Massa’s replacement could be coming to an end.
“For sure Ferrari doesn’t want to be last at the race. We want to be stronger as a team,” he said.
But Badoer was confident that he could impress on his home circuit, where he has driven more laps than anyone else as a Ferrari test driver.
“In Monza, I think for sure I start with the idea to get in the points range,” said the 38-year-old Italian, who has never finished in the points for a record 50 races.” The Associated Press
“I can say that after two races, I have much more of a grip on this mountain of things to learn,” he said.
“From these two grands prix I have learnt so much and grown in experience. From my point of view, it would be a shame to change things now.
“Monza, Mugello and Fiorano are the tracks where I have driven most in my life. It would be absurd and I would be very disappointed because I am convinced that at Monza I have the feeling needed.
“Going to a track that I could drive with my eyes closed, I am sure I could get a good result. If I had to set myself a deadline, maybe I would do it for after Monza. I would be the first to say: ‘Lads, it’s not working out’.” SkySports
