We had some bad luck when it came to the yellows, said Wolf after the race. It looked as though it was going to rain about half way through the race, during one of the safety car periods [the 5th], so we waited before coming into the pits to see if we would need wet weather tires or not. It turned out that we left it a little bit too late to pit, as it went green about half a lap after I got back on the track and I hadnt had the chance to catch up with the field.
Henzler managed to move from 11th position in the GT class back up to 3rd, but he could not hold back Werner in the Farnbacher Loles Porsche who had fresher tires.
I had had to push very hard to make up positions, and did the fastest GT lap of the race during this time, but I used the tires a lot! It meant that when I was battling with Dirk Werner towards the end of the race, I had no grip left. I had already flat-spotted the right front which gave me oversteer and, although we had a good fight for about five laps and lots of contact, I could not keep him back.
Eric did a good job for us both in qualifying (3rd in class) and at the start of the race, and the crew did great pit stops, so its a shame we werent able to finish on the podium. Well be trying even harder next time!
Wolf Henzlers next race will be for Tafel Racing in the American Le Mans Series Acura Sports Car Challenge of St. Petersburg (Florida). The race will start at 5:05 p. m. ET on Saturday, March 31.
