More people come to Reno for Hot August Nights, more food is consumed during the Nugget Rib Cook-Off, and more beauty is enjoyed during the balloon races.
But more noise is definitely made during Street Vibrations, the annual celebration of all things motorcycle, which shakes the Reno-Sparks-Carson City streets Wednesday through Sunday.
More than 25,000 bike enthusiasts roar into the area for the event. They show off their rides, sport their leather and explore seemingly every highway, road and back road of northwest Nevada.
This year might see a record broken. Nationally recognized motocross rider Ryan Capes will attempt a record-breaking jump at the Grand Sierra on Saturday.
Capes, the newest addition to the team, will attempt to jump 300 feet ramp to ramp to beat the former record of 253 feet established in 1999.
That evening will also find the grand opening of the Grand Sierra’s Xtreme Sports Bar and Lounge, a lively tavern with dining selections, occupying the space once held by the Garage and Pearl.
During Street Vibrations, Reno’s Virginia Street becomes a giant motorcycle mall with more than 250 vendors. The Silver Legacy is the center of the display of motorcycle art.
Virginia City has been a favorite destination for bikers since the event began 16 years ago, but this year it jumps in officially with a new headquarters in the middle of downtown, live music, vendors and parking for more than 400 bikes.
