It’s finally time to go racing again and Dick and Jason Brink couldn’t be happier.

Dick and his son Jason will line up their cars at Infineon Raceway this weekend for the NHRA Division 7 Drag Races. Jason will be behind the wheel for two classes with his father/crew chief close by in the regional developmental drag racing series event.

It’s just like old times for the Brink Family. While Jason was still a student at Benicia High School, his father encouraged him to join the Wednesday Night Drags program at the Sonoma track.

“My dad had a ‘66 Chevy Nova he bought while I was still in high school and we raced the same car in two different classes,” said Jason, who is raising his own family in Benicia with his wife and two children. “It got to be hard to run in two classes at once, so eventually I took over and my dad tuned the car and became my crew chief. We just progressed from there.”

The two sold that ‘66 Nova to buy a top alcohol dragster, which Jason is rolling out of his father’s garage. He hasn’t raced the dragster in recent years after switching to the Super Gas class with his ‘63 Corvette. This weekend, he’ll race both cars.

“I’m doubling my odds,” Jason said. “The dragster’s actually for sale, but it’s just sitting there, so I might as well take it out and make an appearance.”

Brink got out of the garage for the first time this season for last weekend’s Lucas Oil Nationals at Sonoma.

All three generations of the Brink Family will be at the track this weekend.
