A 91-foot sculpture of the Jaguar E-type serves as a striking centerpiece for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom.
It took 10 days for a bridge-building company to install the 330,690-pound statue in front of the Goodwood House. That is the weight equivalent of 122 life-size copies of the Series 1 E-type. Autoweek.com
Jaguar commissioned British sculptor Gerry Judah to design the piece, which is made from steel gas pipes — ironically donated from the steelmaking wing of corporate parent Tata — that are about 4 feet in diameter. A firm specializing in bridge building helped with the installation, which took 10 days to complete. In all, the sculpture weighs 330,693 pounds, or for you math geeks out there, roughly 122 Series 1 E-types.
Judah has designed a number of Goodwood art installations in the past, including sculptures for Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Ford, and Alfa Romeo. Traditionally, Judah incorporates actual vehicles into his sculptures, but decided to go a different route with the Jaguar E-type.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of many events that Jaguar has chosen to commemorate the E-Type’s 50th birthday. Jaguar will also be displaying its current models, including the XF, XK and XJ. The next celebration will be held at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which takes place this August 21. Automobile Magazine
