Hitting wall doesn’t keep Kruger from fourth-place finish; THR is next
Even though 13-year-old Jake Kruger is out of school for the summer, he’s still practicing some basic math skills.
As in, he looks for nothing but top-5 finishes at every Lonestar Legacys race.
Kruger came home fourth at last week’s Legacys race at Corpus Christi Speedway, giving him two top-5 finishes at that track his past two starts. This, despite hitting the wall a little past halfway in the feature race.
This Saturday (June 9) the Bastrop youngster will try to pilot his #71 John Martin/Austin Vee-Dub Body Shop Chevrolet Monte Carlo to a top-5 finish at Thunder Hill Raceway (Kyle, TX) at the 3/8th-mile asphalt oval.
“I’m very glad to get those top-5 finishes at CC speedway, ” stated Kruger Motorsports Racing (KMR) co-owner Bill Kruger. “We’ve now finished third and fourth our last two times there. We have to get hungry and go after a win – or at least another top-5 finish – this weekend at THR. ”
The elder Kruger continued, “We had a good car at Corpus but it was hard to pass. We were as good as the leaders but with a shortened feature race (from 25 to 20 laps) we didn’t have time to get anything done. Still, we’re looking forward to running with the leaders again at Kyle this coming weekend. We made some changes lately and those should help us at Kyle. ”
Jake, who’s fourth in the Legacys points standings going into Saturday, explained his feature race at CC Speedway.
“We got off to a bad start in the first heat race, we got spun and couldn’t get back to the front, ” he started. “We had to start towards back in the feature. I think if we’d have started up front in feature we would’ve had a good shot at winning. At one point I was behind two cars, one blocking and one throwing oil, which held me up most of the race. ”
Jake Kruger continued, “Then a caution came out, the car in front jumped on his brakes causing me to lock my brakes and eventually hit the wall. It bent the right front bumper; after that it was rubbing the tire. The steering wheel wouldn’t turn all the way the rest of the race, and that was a factor in our finish. Still I’m glad for a top-5 and hope to improve on that this Saturday at THR. ”
Jake and KMR are sponsored by John Martin, Austin Vee-Dub Body Shop, Cool Carts of Texas, CapiTel Communications Inc. and Sikkens Paint.
