Folkerts won the 1999 Harris Clash for IMCA Modifieds at Knoxville along with 10 track championships and an Iowa state IMCA points title. He sold his equipment in 2004 and now runs Knoxville Raceway’s timing and scoring computer.
Question: What about your family and racing?
A: My dad’s won 360 races at Knoxville. My brothers Tim and Todde raced here, too. ... That year (of winning the Clash), I always said that year was a two-car team. That was a big deal because that was the second year that Tim came back racing for Dad.
He kind of started on one end of the spectrum in setups and I went the other direction and we kind of met in the middle. Anything he did and anything I did was kind of a combination and we had 52 wins that year between us. It was pretty impressive.
Question: How do you feel about qualifying for the state wrestling tournament in 1985 as a freshman?
A: (Tim and Todde) were seniors my freshman year - we had a really good team and the motivation was there to go. Then, of course, you thought, ‘Oh, heck, I’ve got three more years to get back,’ and, hey, that’s not always the case.
