Sure, local tracks will offer their weekly dose of stock car racing, but this weekend isn’t like most. That’s because everything from lawn mowers to buses will take the green flag.
The Michigan Lawn Mower Racing Association will host the eighth annual STA-BIL Great Lakes Summer Nationals Race for Huntington’s Disease Research. Action begins at 5 p.m. Saturday and continues at 1 p.m. Sunday at Paul C. Miller Airport in Sparta.
Jayson Mikula of Sparta—the Jimmie Johnson of lawn mower racing, considering he is a four-time defending national champion—predicted up to 80 lawn mowers will compete over the two days in seven classes.
School is out for the summer, but Berlin Raceway will put some of those school buses to work Saturday.
The Marne half-mile will host its weekly Super Stocks, Modifieds and Pro Stock divisions starting at 7 p.m., followed by bus races to top the program.
