The engine of the black, shiny race car revved, and a giant smile spread across Josh Woods’ face.
The seventh-grade science devotee was tucked tightly into the rear seat of the Indy car. The hard work that Josh, 12, had put into his science project at the University Academy charter school had definitely been worth it.
His project — “the Effect of Temperature on the Flux of Magnets” — earned top honors at the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair and two laps around the block in the street-modified Indy-type car driven by Arie Luyendyk Jr.
The ride “was really fun,” said Josh. “It was bumpy, and when we picked up speed, the air pushed me back and pressed me against the seat.”
