Grey-haired petrol head Philip Barak has been winning races since he began in 1956 and is still finishing on the podium by beating drivers more than half his age.
The grandfather has won some 300 races and taken numerous titles during his 53 years behind the wheel and even once beat the great Jackie Stewart in a race.
Just last month he achieved first and second place at Silverstone in a series of motorsport league races in a 200mph Formula 3-type car.
Philip, who once broke his neck in a horror crash when his car somersaulted at high speed, has raced at Formula 2 level before and twice nearly got drives in Formula 1.
But the company sponsoring him has now withdrawn its funding due to the recession.
Philip, who runs his own company importing clothes, believes a firm wanting to advertise a product for the ‘mature person’ would be appropriate.
Widower Philip, from Finmere, Bucks, said: “I really don’t want to stop racing. I am 74 and am still winning races, so why should I?”
“I’ve been doing it ever since I was 21 and I’m as fit now as I was in my 20s and 30s.”
Philip currently drives a Reynard Formula 3 motor that has been converted into a sports car and competes in a season of league races across the country.
“I started racing in Formula 3 because there was no carting in those days, which is where the youngsters start today.”
Despite the risks involved and his age, Philip, who drives to races in a transporter in which also stays, is keen to go on as long as he can.
