Vintage Racecars to Rev-Up at New Jersey Motorsports Park

There are plenty of world-renowned museums in Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., each within a short drive of New Jersey Motorsports Park. On October 2-4, the biggest collection of artwork might just be in Millville, N.J. at the History of Speed event on the 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway.

Well over 100 cars, all of which are prepped to museum quality but are ready to race, will be on track running wheel-to-wheel under the Sportscar Vintage Racecar Association (SVRA) sanction. From 1950s and 60s-era sports cars and formula cars to more modern but retired Indy Lights and NASCAR machines, the History of Speed covers 50 years of racing.

The event schedule features 10 groups of racing, with practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday mornings before each group races on Saturday afternoon. A Sunday warm-up precedes the final feature races later that afternoon.

One of the popular draws is the ride into downtown Millville on Friday afternoon. Select race cars participating in the weekend’s races will caravan downtown to the Glasstown Arts District area where the public will be invited to get up close with the machines, as well as the city’s art galleries.

Additionally, Saturday’s racing activities will run concurrently to the World War II Warbirds at Millville, an open house of rare historic airplanes at the Millville Airport.

Sitting on over 500 acres in Millville, N.J., New Jersey Motorsports Park is conveniently located to Philadelphia, the Jersey Shore, New York and Baltimore, and offers diverse and dynamic motorsports attractions. The facility includes two world-class road courses (Thunderbolt and Lightning), an exclusive motorsports country club known as the Drivers Club, the Breighton Room Restaurant open to the general public, and F1 New Jersey, one of the top karting facilities in America. Opened in July 2008, New Jersey Motorsports Park hosts eight major motorsports events in 2009. The 2009 spectator schedule opened with the Verizon Wireless 250 presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 in May, and also includes the Formula X weekend featuring the Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda and a host of Mazda-powered race series, as well as All Revved Up; the debut of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Pro Road Race Series, including the American Superbike class and the new Daytona Sportbike program; the return of the ARCA/ReMax Series as the only road course visit on the series schedule; a Ferrari Challenge event and the excitement of two separate Vintage race weekends.
