Carl Haas To Be Inducted Into The SCCA Hall Of Fame Saturday

Carl A. Haas will be inducted into the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Hall of Fame on Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas. Hall of Fame inductees are selected for having made a significant contribution to the development and/or the preservation of SCCA that had a direct impact on the Club being the organization it is today. The induction will be the culmination of the three day national convention being held at the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk February 1-3.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the SCCA, ” said Haas. “I joined the organization when I started racing and through the SCCA I have been able to meet and work with some phenomenal people such as Jim Hall, Peter Revson, Jackie Stewart, David Hobbs, Brian Redmond, Jacky Ickx, Paul Newman, Augie Pabst, Hap Sharp, Roger Penske, Dan Gurney and Mario and Michael Andretti, as well as many others. The relationships I have forged through the SCCA have helped me achieve success in many areas of Motorsports and I thank the organization for the role it has played in this and the enjoyment it has brought. ”

Initially a racing driver, Carl Haas was a sports car racing pioneer who became the importer for Elva race cars then later Lola cars and Hewland gearboxes. He also built successful race teams in Formula 5000, Can-Am (both first and second generation), Formula Ford, Super Vee, Formula Atlantic, Sports 2000, Formula One, NASCAR and currently focuses his attention on his seven-time Champ Car championship-winning race team, Newman/Haas Racing. In addition, he has promoted racing events in Milwaukee and Houston. Haas took time out from his business to serve the Club on its Board of Directors for a total of 12 years, acting as its Chairman for four. He was bestowed SCCA’s highest honor, the Woolf Barnato Award, in 1985.
