SCCA: Gerardo Bonilla Prepares For Busy Road Atlanta Week Burris Motorsport

IMSA Lites points leader Gerardo Bonilla is preparing for a very busy week at Road Atlanta this October 1st through 5th. Bonilla will be piloting the B-K Motorsports IMSA Lites DP-02 with Mazda power for the series 9th and 10th races of the 2008 season. Additionally, Bonilla will be piloting the Autosport Development Pontiac GTO in the SPEED World Challenge GT race.

In addition to continuing his IMSA Lites effort, Bonilla is excited to compete in his first World Challenge race. “Autosport Development has given me a great opportunity to try this challenging series. It’s a dream to race with guys like Randy Pobst, who has been a mentor of mine for years, ” said Bonilla.

Bonilla relates the challenge of driving two racecars during the same week to playing a piano, then moving to trombone during the same concert. “It’s still music, but requires you to adapt quickly. Racing two different cars consecutively is very similar, ” explains Bonilla. “It’s not something I would have tried earlier in my career. But now, the time is right for this challenge. ”

Bonilla has achieved much this season, but he quickly points out the other people who helped him reach this point. “I am extremely grateful to B-K Motorsports and to Autosport Development. These guys put a lot of faith in my ability to do this job. I appreciate their trust, ” said Bonilla. “My coach, mentors, sponsors, partners, and family have all given me so much. All I can do is keep giving back, especially when I teach for the drivers of Skip Barber Racing School. ”

Bonilla recently gave back to the community by visiting with Cub Scout Pack 3865 of Mequon, Wisconsin this past Tuesday September 25th. Bonilla displayed his racing gear, and showed race videos and photos to the captive audience of young Scouts and their parents.
