Today, the GP2 Series concluded their last test session of the 2009 season, in Barcelona. After three days of hard work, Javier Villa came out as the quickest man on track, signing the best laptime in a 1:26.696 this morning, ahead of Portuguese Alvaro Parente. The Ocean Racing acedecidedly made sure his presence was felt at the Catalunya track, staying at the top of the timing sheet for the past three days.
Third quickest of the day was another experienced driver: Lucas di Grassi at the wheel of his Racing Engineering car did not fail to impress either during the pre-season tests both in Barcelonaand Paul Ricard two weeks ago. Behind today’s top 3, Luca Filippi, back at Super Nova, signed the fourth quickest laptime ahead of Frenchman Romain Grosjean at Barwa Campos.
Piquet GP’s Spaniard Roldan Rodriguez clocked in his best time of the day this morning closely followed by rookie Giedo Van der Garde at iSport International, GP2 Asia Series leader Kamui Kobayashi at Dams, Mexican Sergio Perez at Telmex Arden and Belgian Jérôme d’Ambrosio on the second Dams car.
The 2009 GP2 Series season will open on the second weekend of May in Barcelona as the Formula One Championship returns to Europe.
Meanwhile, twelve of the thirteen GP2 teams will join Qi-Meritus next week in Sepang for the fifth and penultimate round of the GP2 Asia Series and will be part of the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix.
