Another day of qualifying concluded at Heartland Park Topeka for the 2007 SCCA National Championship Runoffs and eight defending champions hold provisional poles.
Defending Spec Racer Ford Champion Mike Miserendino, of Los Angeles, Calif., climbed to the top of the 42-car SRF grid with a time of 1:47.531, after skipping the first two qualifying sessions. The previous polesitter, John Black, of Olympic Valley, Calif., may have dropped to third in SRF, but now sits on pole in GT-3 at the wheel of a Nissan 350Z.
Defending C Sports Racing Champion Hans Peter, of nearby Overland Park, Kan., entered his first CSR qualifying time of the week, a 1:25.480, putting him almost four seconds ahead of yesterday’s polesitter, Jason Miller, of Elkhart Lake, Wis. Jesse Prather, another Kansan and defending Champion, took hold of the F Production Pole in his Mazda Miata with a time of 1:44.546.
In Touring 3, Kevin Fandozzi, of Birmingham, Mich., nipped the pole away from John Heinricy, of Royal Oak, Mich., by a mere 0.007-second. The two Chevrolet Cobalts now sit one-two on the provisional grid.
Last year’s Formula Ford runner-up John Robinson II, of Saint Cloud, Fla., improved his FF pole time to a 1:37.009 in his Swift DB-6, but second-place on the grid Tony Coello, of Palmyra, Wis., also improved his time and sits only 0.243-second behind Robinson.
