The NASCAR Busch Series will set another milestone this weekend as NASCAR’s second biggest series heads to Canada for the running of Saturday’s NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge at the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
One of the entries for NASCAR’s inaugural run is renowned open wheel competitor Alex Garcia. Testing the waters of the NASCAR Busch Series has been a new battle for Garcia’s Transnet Racing team, but as everyone anticipates an exciting weekend, Garcia and company know they stand a chance to be competitive from start to finish.
“It’s very exciting for the NASCAR Busch Series to take a step into another international market, ” said Alex Garcia, driver of the No. 98 Dixien/OmniSource Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. “This new event brings waves of new opportunity, not only to a great track, but to the series as a whole, and we are just happy to be a part of it. ”
“Most of my racing background is surrounded by road racing. Road racing definitely offers a lot of excitement, but also can become very challenging, thus setting up for what is expected to be one of the best road course races of the season. We have a great road course car, and from the success of our recent test, I think we’re going to be in great shape this weekend. ”
Transnet Racing made their NBS debut earlier this year in Mexico, and while it was a day full of trial and tribulation, the team has stepped up their program even further as of late, reeling in a new crew chief and a new outlook on the remainder of the 2007 NBS season.
“A lot has happened with our team since Mexico, ” Garcia explained. “We’ve been able to do some testing, made some personnel changes, and adjusted our schedule in order for us to have a presence when we are on the track. This weekend in Montreal should be a testament to the changes we’ve made at Transnet Racing. Everyone is excited about our choices and so am I. ”
The biggest change at the Atlanta, Georgia based team has been the addition of new crew chief Danny Gill. Gill came to the operation with massive amounts of NASCAR experience while also dabbling in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, another stock car division where Garcia himself has some experience. The addition of the veteran has given the team some stability and direction leading into this weekend’s race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
“The addition of Danny (Gill) has allowed this team to take to new heights. His experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm are just what this team needed as we stride to put together a successful NASCAR Busch Series program. I feel with Danny aboard, we are one major step closer in making that goal become a reality, ” added Garcia.
Dixien LLC and OmniSource Corporation will back the team’s effort this weekend.
Dixien LLC is a full service, tier one supplier of Metal Stampings, Welded Assemblies and Plastic Components based in Georgia. OmniSource Corporation is the largest privately held scrap processor in the United States. OmniSource can provide a variety of services, from vacuum processing of alloy solids to scrap management services for a variety of industry segments.
“It’s important for us to have a good run this weekend, ” explained Garcia. “This race is attracting a lot of attention; we would like to be in contention for some good exposure time. Our sponsors have continued to be very supportive of the team this year and we would like nothing more than cap off the weekend with a top-10 finish. ”
Following the 23rd event on the 2007 schedule, Transnet Racing plans to compete at Watkins Glen International on August 11, the third and final road course race of the season.
