Andy Lally behind the wheel of the No. 47 Clorox/TRG/Wood Brothers/JTG Racing Ford Fusion drove to seventh place on the days final NASCAR Busch Series time sheet at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
For Lally it was his first run in the NASCAR Busch Series with like traffic on the track. After a test at Sebring International Raceway last week, the Dacula, Georgia resident got right to business. In the first session of the day he ended up eighth on the time sheet with a time of 1:45.177. In the days final practice he posted a time of 1:43.963 and declared he had a good race car.
“We steadily improved all day, ” Lally said. “The times were good and we have been in the top ten all day. In the afternoon the track really heated up and we made the car better, but it really didn’t show on the time screen. We are really making subtle changes on the cars setup and making those small gains that I hope will payoff Saturday afternoon. ”
The top drivers at the end of the day were a mix of Busch and Nextel Cup regulars, including some of the top road racing names in all of motorsport.
“I am really happy with the way the day went, ” Lally said. “To be at the top with the quality of drivers and teams up there says a lot about Scott Zippadelli and the Wood Brothers/JTG crew. I am comfortable in the car and I think we hit upon a good setup for the race. We will tape off the grill and be ready to qualify. ”
Kevin Buckler, TRG owner, is proud of Andy and the team for getting off to a fast start in the team’s NASCAR Busch Series debut.
“Great first day, ” Buckler said. “Scott and the guys from the Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team have really put a good car under Andy. Andy is providing solid feedback and as a combination they are making the No. 47 Clorox/TRG car make steady improvement toward the top of the time sheet. There is more to come. ”
Qualifying will take place at 12:10 p. m. EDT on Saturday with the race following just three hours later. ESPN2 will carry the race live starting at 3:00 p. m. EDT.
TRG has partnered with the Wood Brothers/JTG Racing who will supply Ford cars and crew for the upcoming two race effort which includes Watkins Glen. Glen Wood founded the famous racing team some 57 years ago, making the team synonymous with fast pits stops and speedy race cars. Since that time, the team has been a fixture on the Busch and NASCAR scene fielding drivers such as Ricky Rudd, Neil Bonnet and David Pearson.
