O’Quinn heads to his home state for the Emerson Radio 250
It seems fitting.
When Danny O’Quinn Jr. returns Friday to the state where he’s received so much support over the years, he’ll be backed by a sponsor that’s helped Mac Hill Motorsports all season long.
That’s Smith Transport Inc., which will be the primary sponsor of Mac Hill’s No. 56 Chevy Monte Carlo SS in the Emerson Radio 250.
The Roaring Spring, Pa. -based company, which specializes in transportation and logistic services, has been a major associate sponsor of the 56 car in the NASCAR Busch Series this year as well as a sponsor of Mac Hill’s USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series teams. However, Friday’s race at Richmond International Raceway will be the first in which Smith Transport has been the primary sponsor of the No. 56.
“We’re all really looking forward to this race, ” said O’Quinn, the reigning 2006 Busch Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year, who grew up in Coeburn, Va. “It gives me a chance to race again in my home state, and it gives Mac Hill a chance to celebrate the partnership with Smith Transport. ”
Indeed, team owner Jack McNelly said his organization will do its best to put on a good run for Smith Transport.
“They’ve just been wonderful people to work with and for, ” he said.
The Emerson Radio 250 will be the fifth race O’Quinn has run this year for Mac Hill. The Roush Fenway Racing driver, who’s driving a limited schedule for Mac Hill, will pilot the No. 56 again at Memphis on Oct. 27.
His best finish in two starts at Richmond is 14th, which came in last year’s fall Busch race.
The Emerson Radio 250 will be broadcast on ESPN2. Coverage begins at 7:30 p. m. EDT (6:30 p. m. CDT), and the race starts at 8 p. m. EDT (7 p. m. CDT).
