Richard Childress Racing star Jeff Burton claimed his fifth NASCAR Busch Series win of the season by 1.718 seconds over Mark Martin Nov. 17 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Burton ended the season 15th in the series standings after charting five wins, 12 top-five and 17 top-10 finishes through just 19 starts. Matt Kenseth placed third, 2007 Series Champion Carl Edwards crossed the finish line fourth and 2007 Kentucky Speedway series race winner Stephen Leicht completed the top five.
Edwards wins the series championship by 618 points over David Reutimann after collecting four wins, 15 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes this season. The championship-winning margin is the second-widest in series history, eclipsing the previous margin of 616 points established by Jeff Green in 2000. Harvick generated the widest championship-winning margin last season when he drubbed Edwards by 824 points in the title chase. Roush-Fenway Racing driver David Ragan completes the season with a 27-point lead in the Rookie-of-the-Year standings over Australian Marcos Ambrose.
The final top 10 drivers in the series standings are: Edwards (Champion: 4,805 points, Roush-Fenway Racing, Ford), Reutimann (Second: -618, Michael Waltrip Racing, Toyota), Jason Leffler (Third: -809, Braun Racing, Toyota), Harvick (Fourth: -812, Kevin Harvick, Inc., Chevrolet), Ragan (Fifth: -1,066, Roush-Fenway Racing, Ford, ), Bobby Hamilton, Jr. (Sixth: -1,138, Team Rensi Motorsports, Ford), Leicht (Seventh: -1,202, Robert Yates Racing, Ford), Ambrose (Eighth: -1,328, Wood Brothers/ JTG Racing, Ford), Greg Biffle (Ninth: -1,339, Roush-Fenway Racing, Ford) and Kenseth (10th: -1,354, Roush-Fenway Racing, Ford). The series makes its debut as the NASCAR Nationwide Series Feb. 16, 2008 at Daytona International Speedway. Harvick won the 2006 event at the track that Aric Almirola started from the pole position.
