Marcos Ambrose has made a great start to the Carfax 250 by posting the eighth fastest time in final practice at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan today.

Ambrose had a strong day in the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion, driving to second fastest in Rookie Practice before finishing final practice in eighth position.

Eighth in final practice made Ambrose the fastest non-Nextel Cup driver in the session and also the top Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender.

The Australian is aiming for a strong run this weekend at Michigan after strong performances at the previous two NASCAR Busch Series events, both of which were staged on road courses.

Ambrose has one previous start at 2.0-mile Michigan International Speedway, qualifying second and finishing 26th in only his seventh NASCAR start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series last season.

The 30-year-old currently lies eighth in the NASCAR Busch Series standings and is second behind fellow Ford driver David Ragan in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings.

Qualifying and the 125-lap Carfax 250 will be held tomorrow at Michigan International Speedway.

“We worked at the car all day and I am pretty pleased with were we have ended up for the day, ” said Ambrose.

“Michigan is a great track and one that I have been looking forward to coming back to ever since I raced the truck here last season.

“It’s big, it’s fast and it’s creates good racing through the long, wide corners.

“Today it was good to be running up at the right end of the timesheets in final practice and to be mixing it with the big boys.

“There are a lot of Nextel Cup drivers racing in the Busch Series this weekend but I always enjoy the events where the Cup boys race. Racing the best allows you to learn a lot and gives you the most satisfaction if you can run well against them.

“It’s only practice and tomorrow is the day we need to concentrate on, but positive signs for us today and I think we can look forward to tomorrow. ”
