Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the No. 12 Kodak Dodge Charger, earned the sixth starting position for Saturday’s Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway two hours before the Busch Series season finale was to begin.

Hornish’s qualifying time of 31.412 seconds - 171.909 mph—was only 0.283 of a second off the pole.

“I was pretty happy with the Kodak Dodge, ” Hornish said. “The car was really good, but maybe a little too loose right now. I tried to get a little more out of it the second lap and got pretty loose going into (turns) one and two. So I figured I’d shut it down after that. I think that if we tighten it up for the race and try to be patient, we’ll go out there and get a top-10. “

Live coverage of Saturday’s Ford 300 will be on ESPN2 and MRN Radio at 4 p. m. EST.
