NASCAR Busch Series: Zippo 200 At Watkins Glen Is Juan Pablo Montoya's Last NASCAR Busch Race

Montoya is the front-runner in the circuit’s final road course event of the season Sunday at Watkins Glen International Raceway.

And why shouldn’t he be?

After winning a Busch Series race in Mexico City in March and his first Cup victory at the Infineon Raceway road circuit in June, Montoya has solidified himself as NASCAR’s top road racer. Pete Pistone, CBS SportsLine.com

Juan Montoya has started 16 of the first 23 Busch Series races this season, with a spectacular victory in Mexico City, in only his third start of the season. But Saturday’s Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen will be his final start.

Montoya will make his final Busch Series start of the year on Saturday, then will be one of the drivers to watch in Sunday’s Cup race: The Centurion Boats at the Glen. Win either one and he’ll become the first NASCAR driver to win three road-course races in one season. advertisement

No one should be surprised.

“I’m getting more comfortable to drive a little freer, a little bit looser and I think that’s helping a lot, “ Montoya said. Tony Bolick, AZCentral.com

The season’s final 11 races will be contested by Chip Ganassi Racing development drivers, as the owner said Montoya’s development in stock cars has proceeded at an acceptable pace.  Dave Rodman, NASCAR.COM

Montoya has the chance to win his third road race of the season in NASCAR’s top two series (Nextel Cup and Busch), having claimed his first Nextel Cup win at Infineon and his first career Busch series win at Mexico City.
Those wins made Montoya only the third driver in NASCAR history to win two road races in the same season.
Ernie Irvan did it in 1991, winning at Infineon in the Nextel Cup race and at Watkins Glen in the Busch race, and Darrell Waltrip accomplished the feat in 1986, winning the Winston Cup race at Riverside and the Busch Series race at Road Atlanta. Brent Trowbridge, TheDailyReview.com
