The centrepiece of the 50th Anniversary of the Teretonga Park motor racing circuit celebrations will take place in November.
Registrations are being invited from those who would like to attend a weekend of events to mark the milestone. Teretonga Park, near Invercargill, is the first motor racing circuit in New Zealand to reach the 50th Anniversary mark and a very special weekend is being organised on 9,10,11 November to celebrate the occasion.
The weekend will commence with a get together in the clubrooms at Teretonga Park on the evening of Friday 9 November. This will be an introduction to the celebrations with plenty of opportunity for those associated with the circuit over the last 50 years to reminisce.
The following day, Saturday 10 November, there will be a celebratory race meeting at the circuit. “Blast From The Past” will be a race meeting restricted to past drivers and members plus cars or replicas that have competed at any of the two hundred and forty - four meetings that have been held at the circuit in those fifty years. Race vehicles must comply with current regulations and drivers must hold a current Motorsport New Zealand racing license. Depending on entries, classes will be available for most types and ages of vehicles. Regulations for the event and entry forms will be available in mid June.
Later that evening a Commemorative Dinner and Chat Show will be held at the Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill. Hosted by well known motorsport personalities Donald McDonald and Roger Cunninghame, this informal chat show will provide attendees with a memorable evening accompanied by a superb meal. Smart, casual attire is the dress code for the evening.
Then, on Sunday 11 November, comes an opportunity for everyone to return to Teretonga Park for a day of light competition. Past and present members, workers and competitors will be able to enjoy drives around the circuit as well as a social luncheon. Cars used in the Teretonga circuit drives must have a Warrant Of Fitness while Motorsport New Zealand racing licenses are not required.
