Defending World of Outlaws (WoO) champion Donny Schatz knows the importance of safety. The Fargo, ND resident will serve as a spokesman for the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign, which kicks off this month across the nation.
“This is a great program to be involved with, “ said Schatz, who will be in his home town of Minot, ND and current residence of Fargo promoting the campaign. “I know how important it is to buckle up every time I get into a vehicle. We hope to get that message out there not only in North Dakota, but across the country. Hopefully, through efforts of everyone involved we can save some lives. “
Schatz races his No. 15 ParkerStore sponsored sprint car, a 1300-pound, 800 plus horsepower racecar, with the World of Outlaws series on dirt tracks ranging in size from a quarter-mile to a half-mile throughout the United States. He also spends four weeks a year racing sprint cars in Australia.
The 2006 WoO champion will be in Minot on Wednesday, May 9 to help begin this year’s activities. The day will start with a press conference at Nodak Speedway at 9:30 a. m. and will be followed by an appearance at Minot High School during the lunch hour to discuss with teens the importance of always using a seat belt. He will conclude the day by spending two hours signing pledge cards at Walmart (3900 S Broadway) from 4 - 6 p. m.
