The series rookie evidently learns fast, too. He is not only joining one of the most established IndyCar teams in Andretti Green, Mutoh steps into the No. 27 car driven last year by Dario Franchitti, who after winning the Indy 500 and the series title joined the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. Last year’s Indy 500 was Mutoh’s first experience watching the race in person.
“The Indy 500 is the biggest event in the world, not just motor racing, but all sports” he said.

“The biggest difference (racing) is the speed, 35 mph faster. It’s really different in the cockpit of the car. I feel more professional than last year, that’s for sure.”
“I’m very excited joining this team, especially driving car 27, last year’s championship number,” Mutoh said. “Pressure is more motivation. It’s good for me. Since I’ve been a professional driver, I’ve always had pressure. I get used to it.”
But there’s no mistaking his pronunciation when the IndyCar Series rookie talks about the races he anticipates most.
“My goal is to win the Indy 500 and win in Motegi,” he said.
