Buddy Rice and Sarah Fisher drove their Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Honda cars into the 33-car field Sunday during qualifying runs for the 91st Indianapolis 500 set for May 27.
The teammates hoped to notch a position in the field on Saturday when the first eleven spots were secured but Rice and Fisher had to settle for strong runs on Sunday in bright sunshine on the famed Brickyard oval.
Rice, the 2004 Indy 500 winner, took the No. 15 A1 TEAM USA/Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Honda Dallara to a four-lap average speed of 222.826 miles per hour for the 16th starting spot. Buddy’s four laps of 222.801, 222.881, 222.768 and 222.853 gave him a position on the inside of the sixth row for the May 27 200-lap classic, the world’s biggest auto racing event.
