The IndyCar Series teams, including Dreyer & Reinbold Racing with drivers Buddy Rice and Sarah Fisher, threw everything they had at the famed two and a half mile oval Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the final round of practice before Saturday’s qualification runs.
With weather conditions nearly perfect and the temperatures in the 80s, the racing surface proved to be slippery later in the day but that didn’t slow many of the contenders for Saturday’s pole position. A six-hour practice session saw one driver over 227 miles per hour and three others over 226 m. p.h.
Rice, in the No. 15 A1 TEAM USA/Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Honda Dallara, posted the 13th fastest speed on Friday with a clocking of 224.025 m. p.h. Rice, the 2004 Indy 500 pole winner and race champion, will be the first driver out for qualifications at noon Saturday. The qualifying runs will be seen Saturday on ESPN2 at noon.
