In a race filled with difficulties, Canadian Club driver Dario Franchitti finished fifth at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Sunday on the temporary street circuit in St. Petersburg, Fla.
On the first lap of the race, Franchitti and teammate Tony Kanaan made contact and Franchitti went down a lap due to repairs needing to be made to the left front of the car. Franchitti was forced to bring the car back into the pits on the very next lap to allow the team to make additional repairs. On the second stop, he received a drive-through penalty for speeding on pit lane in an attempt to remain only one lap behind the leaders. A second full course caution a third of the way through the race allowed Franchitti to remain on the track and return to the lead lap. Franchitti suffered additional problems when he lost the cooling mechanism in the brakes half way through the race.
Helio Castroneves captured the win in the Honda Grand Prix and Scott Dixon earned the runner-up finish. Teammates Kanaan and Marco Andretti finished third and fourth, respectively.
