According to Friday’s Indiananapolis Star, “Champ Car is finalizing a move that would see the new China race, set for May, moved to October, which would clear the way for competitors to participate in the Indy 500, if they choose. â€
Moving the race to October also puts the event in the same month as the Chinese Formula 1 Grand Prix in Shanghai, something that could cause complications. It is not difficult for anyone involved with F1 or race management in Shanghai to voice concern to Beijing’s central motorsports authorities and block Champ Car’s date change.
It is not known at this time if the corruption scandal involving those Chinese closely aligned to Bernie Ecclestone could affect anyone’s ability to shape the decisions in Beijing. It is important to note, however, that the most influential Chinese decision makers overseeing Formula 1 in China were not involved in the corruption scandal.
