What fans along the challenging, 1.8-mile St. Petersburg street course didn t know was that Crews was suffering from the flu on Sunday. He credits a fitness routine developed by Jim Leo of PitFit Training, Indianapolis, for giving him the mental and physical strength to be able to compete in the race.
Next on the schedule for Crews, a native of Dallas currently living in Indianapolis, is one of the biggest Indy Pro Series races of the year - the Freedom 100 on the oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, May 25.
Crews will participate in an open test at IMS on Friday, April 27.
In addition to following his daily training regimen, Crews continues to search for marketing partners to join his current sponsors, American Momentum Bank and Magnus Energy. If enough funding is found he d like to complete the remainder of the 2007 Indy Pro Series schedule with Michael Crawford Motorsports. Crews competed in four of 12 Indy Pro Series events last year in his rookie season in the series, the official development series of IndyCar.
Crews is also speaking with several IndyCar teams about the possibility of participating in the Indianapolis 500 rookie orientation program (ROP) at IMS in early May as a step toward his goal of becoming the youngest driver to make the starting field in the 91-year history of the Indy 500.
