Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Eager to Get Back to Racing

Dan Helrigel

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing was eager to get back to racing and prove how hard they had worked in the off-season. DRR hit the pavement at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama today, marking the second time that both of the team’s drivers, Justin Wilson (No. 22 Z-Line Designs) and Mike Conway (No. 24 Dad’s Root Beer), have tested at the 2.3 mile road course.

Newest addition to the team, Justin Wilson, pilot of the No. 22 Z-Line Designs car, quickly gelled with his crew and engineer.  As a result he ended the final session with the third quickest time of 1:10.7397.  Unfortunately, his day was ended a bit prematurely as he brushed the wall coming out of turn one. Luckily, the car wasn’t badly damaged and the Englishman will be back out on track tomorrow.

It was a bittersweet day for Mike Conway as well.  The 26-year old was able to log in a number of laps and get some valuable track time to tuck behind his belt.  Unfortunately, he struggled to find the right balance on the car and he rounded out the day with the 17th fastest time of 1:12.1543.

What they had to say….

Dennis Reinbold, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Co-Owner: “This was kind of a good and bad test for us so far.  We ended up struggling a little bit with the No. 24 car and with the No. 22 car we made some pretty good gains and ended in third position for the day.  We are pretty happy about that.  We have a little bit of work to do with Mike’s car, but we will sort that out tonight and come out tomorrow and see what we have in terms of finding some speed.  We have a direction that we will go in and we are pretty confident that it’s going to help.”

Justin Wilson, No. 22 Z-Line Designs: “The first day in the car was really good.  It was a pretty positive day and we kept making improvements. All in all I think that it went well and I’m pleased with P3.  I’m getting comfortable in the car and with my new engineer and crew. I’m looking forward to tomorrow. Unfortunately, at the end of the day I just clipped the grass going into turn one and the car snapped around on me. The car isn’t too badly damaged and I’m okay.”

Mike Conway, No. 24 Dad’s Root Beer: “Today was a tough day and we were just trying to get a good balance with the car, but struggled a little bit.  Tomorrow we are just going to keep up the hard work and try and get through all of the test items.  Luckily, we were able to get some laps in and hopefully we can do the same tomorrow.”
