Canadian Club driver Dario Franchitti piloted his way to a second-place finish at the Kansas Lottery Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway. Franchitti currently stands in fourth place in the IndyCar Series championship race, 40 points behind the leader.
After Franchitti’s second pit stop of the day, he was forced to return to the pits for a third stop on the very next lap, as the pits had not opened due to a caution. Despite the penalty, Franchitti remained on the lead lap in the fifth position and skillfully moved by Tomas Scheckter and Helio Castroneves back into third. Franchitti continued to fight Dan Wheldon and Scott Dixon for the win throughout the final laps of the race before Dixon received a stop-and-go penalty on lap 165, which moved Franchitti into second. Franchitti remained in second before a yellow flag came out with two laps remaining causing the race to end under caution.
This was the best finish for Franchitti since his second-place finish at Infineon Raceway in 2006. Franchitti is one of only six drivers to finish all four races of the 2007 season in the top ten.
Dan Wheldon captured the victory with Franchitti, Castroneves, Dixon and Scheckter rounding out the top five, respectively.
