Graham Rahal to Make Third Career Start at St. Petersburg

Graham Rahal, of IZOD IndyCar Series team, Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR) will spend the weekend downtown St. Petersburg, Florida on the 1.8 mile temporary street course as the pilot of the No. 67 Dollar General Honda powered Dallara.

Rahal will be making his third career start at St. Pete, while this weekend will mark Fisher’s first time as a team owner with only one focus instead of two; she will be overseeing the team on the sidelines instead of being behind the wheel.

“This is going to be an exciting weekend not only for SFR, but myself as well. I’ve taken away one of the responsibilities I’ve enjoyed over the last two years, and you would think it would be tough to watch from the timing stand, but I will be thrilled as a leader from a different direction,” said team owner Sarah Fisher, author of 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before Getting Behind the Wheel of Their Dream Job, which is due out in May.

“Watching and contributing as an owner without being in the driver’s seat, but from a driver’s perspective will be brand new and learning how I can help this team take a step towards the next level will be yet another part of this adventure. Every day I am excited to develop and grow SFR, this is just another branch in our reach towards further growth and success. Graham has already been an inspiration to this team while spending time in Indianapolis preparing for these events and has fit naturally to our program.”

“We’re excited to take him back to St. Pete where his results are consistently strong. As a team owner, I’m enthusiastic about working with one of the young rising stars in our sport and hope that this weekend puts us in the hunt for an outstanding finish and Graham back in a seat full time.”

Rahal, who tested with SFR at Barber Motorsports Park last Friday, won in his series debut on the streets of St. Petersburg in 2008, becoming the youngest winner in series history. He returned to the circuit in 2009, capturing the pole position.

“I’m really excited and thankful to be back in a car with SFR at St. Petersburg this weekend,” said Rahal, who signed with SFR for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg as well as the Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park on April 11. I’ve had great success there in the past, and I’m hoping that will continue this weekend and we can produce a good result for Dollar General.”
