Vitor Meira has never been short on optimism. The Brazilian native is used to being among the best, but he wants to be the best.
Having never won a race in his IndyCar career, Meira hasn’t lost faith and knows his day is coming.
The problems continued on the second day of Indy 500 qualifying. Meira’s run of 221.934 mph was disqualified after a technical infraction involving the car’s rear track width on May 10. He requalified later that day in the 14th spot with a four-lap average of 223.054.

Despite losing a qualifying run, the infractions turned out to be a blessing, as it allowed his team to make the necessary adjustments to qualify.

“The speed was there,” Meira said. “From that point on, the race car got better and faster, and we’ve been clicking. We expect to see results from that day still in the race.”
With his move from Panther Racing to A.J. Foyt Racing, Meira, 32, has learned a lot from Foyt, 73, and believes the racing legend will help propel him to new heights.
Panther Racing CEO John Barnes said Meira will do well with his new team.
“He’s racing for a great team,” Barnes said. “I called A.J. and told him (Meira would) be available, and it must’ve worked out because he hired him. I think he’s a very confident driver.”

Meira will need that confidence to find his way to victory lane, especially after coming close to victory so many times.
