Infineon Raceway will host the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, Aug. 21-23. Below are some points of interest regarding previous IndyCar Series events at Infineon Raceway:
1. The Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma has featured four different winners since the series’ first visit to Sonoma in 2005: Tony Kanaan, 2005; Marco Andretti, 2006; Scott Dixon, 2007; and Helio Castroneves, 2008.
2. Marco Andretti won his first-ever IndyCar Series race at Infineon Raceway in 2006. At 19-years-old, Andretti became the then-youngest driver in history to win a major open-wheel event. Andretti also claimed victory at Infineon Raceway in the 2005 Indy Pro Series event.
3. The 2005 IndyCar Series event at Infineon Raceway marked the first major open-wheel event at the Sonoma facility in 35 years and the first permanent road-course event in the 10-year history of the IndyCar Series.
4. 2008 marked the first year that the unified IndyCar Series and Champ Car World Series competed in the Sonoma Valley.
5. Dario Franchitti has led the most laps in IndyCar competition at Infineon Raceway with 62.
6. Vitor Meira is the only driver to finish in the top-10 at all four IndyCar races at Infineon Raceway.
7. Tony Kanaan has the best average finish of any IndyCar driver at Infineon Raceway who has competed in all four races at 4.75 (1st in 2005, 11th in 2006, 4th in 2007, 3rd in 2008).
8. 18 cars finished on the lead lap at Infineon Raceway in 2008, the most ever.
9. Dario Franchitti set the track record for the biggest improvement from qualifying to finish at 13 when he went from 21st to 8th during the 2005 IndyCar main event.
10. Helio Castroneves set a track record for fastest race at Infineon Raceway in 2008 with a time of 1 hour, 50 minutes and 15.83 seconds.
11. Andretti Green Racing has won two of the four IndyCar races contested at Infineon Raceway with drivers Tony Kanaan (2005) and Marco Andretti (2006).
