Pole-sitter Dario Franchitti pulled off a flag-to-flag victory, spending the entire race with Ryan Briscoe in his rearview mirror. Briscoe kept waiting for Franchitti to make a mistake. He’s still waiting.

“I guess it wasn’t too eventful,” Franchitti said in celebrating his first victory at Infineon Raceway and his fourth of the season.” San Francisco Chronicle

Franchitti and Briscoe avoided a multiple-car crash on Lap 1 on the 12-turn, 2.303-mile road course. Scott Dixon, the points leader entering the race, finished 13th after stalling in the wreck. He fell to third place in the points race.

Franchitti, the first flag-to-flag winner in an IndyCar race since Dixon in 2003 at Richmond, moved into second in the standings, 4 points behind Briscoe. New York Times
