New Hampshire Motor Speedway Pursuing IndyCar Event

New Hampshire Motor Speedway executive vice president and general manager Jerry Gappens and the principals of Speedway Motorsports Inc. - the company that owns NHMS - continue to pursue scoring a place in the schedule of the Indy Racing League’s IndyCar Series.

SMI officials went deep in negotiations with the IRL last year to get an IndyCar Series event at NHMS and were left perplexed when they were left off the schedule for this season.

It’s been more than a decade since IndyCar style racing has graced the 1.058-mile oval in Loudon. The track hosted CART from 1992-1995 then the IRL from 1996-1998.

“In a perfect world I would love to run them on a Saturday night under the lights here,” Gappens said. “I think that would be a homerun and give us more flexibility.”
